ADULT CONTEMPORARY

We have been getting a few requests for an Adult Contemporary class lately so we started one on MONDAY's from 830-930.

Our first one was held last night and I am very pleased to say it was a huge success!!We had a great class filled with enthusiastic dancers of all levels from advanced to beginners.

The awesome thing was the different levels did not effect the class atmosphere or the learning opportunity. Everyone had a great time and did it at their own level of comfort without pressure or embarrassment, (including me)!!

I was definitely not one of the advanced contemporary dancers, (far from it), but I had such a GREAT time!!I loved the class and came away feeling great, extremely puffed and sweaty, (which is a good thing), and most importantly, wanting to do it again.

I mean, I got a work out while learning something new and out of my comfort zone, WHILE having fun. What more could you ask for??!! And it was very apparent, at our pow wow session after class, that these feelings were felt by everyone!

Also, our new addition to our faculty, Miss Bec, was great. She was patient, creative, an awesome dancer, educational and easy going. All the characteristics of a great dance teacher! So thanks Bec and welcome to our family.

I cant wait for our next class!!

Hope to see you there!

RENOVATIONS

Q2dance moved to our current location in July 2010 (we were previously in the Burwood PCYC)!Main reason I wanted to move was  because I wanted Q2 to have its own place which will be friendly and open and comfortable for parents and kids and all our students!

I can happily say that, that is exactly what we have achieved....but thats not to say we didn't have a slow/ugly start to make the space perfect and ours!

Check out our photos of how it was like before we started renovations/interior decorating in October!!

BEFORE THE MAKE OVER:
the ugly 1970's style tiles

the different types of walls ie one side brick
one side corks  and the brick and the cement....
no seating for parents to watch

the old sign in the studio

the bleak concrete garden

And now look at our beaufifull Q2dance NOW!

AFTER THE MAKE OVER

and when you thought it was all over, it got even better:

Stay tuned for more home improvements or should I say studio improvements!! (I know corny but it is currently 1.10am so thats my excuse)!!

GOOD NIGHT!!

ENGLISH TAKEOVER

I seem to be having a love affair with English Musicians, at the moment. First it was Jessie J!

I became a fan of hers via You Tube (how else?) when she was doing covers and then she started to release some of her own music. The first one I heard and loved was DO IT LIKE A DUDE!!...which I choreographed for class and I also taught it to my performance crew! That was a few months ago and now she has a top 10 single you would have most definitely hear, called PRICE TAG!

She seems like a pretty cool chick! Not your typical pop singer, she has swagger, writes her own music, raps and has a voice like an African American Soul Singer! Her music also tends to have meaning, ( like in Price Tags), in that way she reminds a bit of Pink, who has a lot to say as well!

The other artist is Plan B aka  Paul Ballance-Drew, is a British rapper, singer-songwriter, actor and film director ...(talk about an over achiever)!...he sounds like Bruno Mars when he sings but on top of a great voice he also has a great flow!

I choreographed his song HARD TIMES (see below post) again for my performance crew.  I bought his album, The Defamation of Strickland Banks after hearing about him from my brother (thanks Bro)! and I am pleased to report there is not one song that I don't love! Not one that I would skip over!

Both albums are available on ITUNES!!...so have a listen and let me know, if you agree!!

HARD TIMES!!

Q2 performance group performed at the first ever Kids Carnival, straight from LA last wk!

I am so proud of my group, they only had one month to put together the show. It was a new show and something a little bit different than we usually do.

We did a hip hop/contemporary set, with a story line. Whats the story line you ask? here it is:

Ryan - played a homeless guy and 4 others (Jordan, Reese, Mya and Isabelle) played the roles of ppl whom a homeless guy might meet in his daily life - a rich/posh lady that tells him to get a job, 2 teenagers that bully him and a girl that ignores him when he asks for money. and Ali and Luella played the conscious of the Ryan. One bad and one good!!it was also the beautiful Ali and Luella that did the contemporary piece.

Anyway back to how fabulous the kids were!!.... they had to learn a hard set and act and use props!and  at the young ages of 8-11 they brought a maturity and a work ethic rarely seen in adults!

So thank you!!

Also a thank you to Lauren Elton who choreographed the Contemp piece and James E who choreographed part of the hip hop set and was there on the night to look after my kids because I had a show at the same time!
